Pre Prep

At Benedict House Preparatory School, our Pre Prep English curriculum lays the foundations for confident communication, curiosity and a lifelong love of language. We believe that young children thrive when they are immersed in a rich world of storytelling, high quality texts and purposeful talk, enabling them to develop secure early reading and writing skills alongside a genuine enjoyment of literature.

Guided by the Literacy Tree, our approach offers a high quality, text led learning experience while allowing teachers the flexibility to respond to children’s interests and individual needs. Handwriting is explicitly taught from the earliest stages so that children develop fluent, confident and well formed presentation.

Our well stocked school library plays a central role in Pre Prep life, with weekly visits that enrich vocabulary, imagination and cultural awareness, ensuring every child begins their educational journey as an enthusiastic, capable and confident communicator.

Prep

In Prep, our English curriculum builds upon these strong foundations to develop articulate, reflective and intellectually curious learners who communicate with confidence, precision and increasing sophistication. Supported by the Literacy Tree as a rigorous framework, our teachers are encouraged to apply professional creativity and expertise to enrich and extend learning in line with our carefully planned curriculum.

Writing is valued as an essential life skill and is embedded across the curriculum, enabling pupils to transfer high quality language, structure and creativity into all areas of their learning. Handwriting continues to be explicitly refined, promoting pride in presentation and high academic standards.

Our extensive library provision, alongside weekly visits, nurtures a genuine love of reading, while creative writing clubs and a range of prestigious competitions throughout the year inspire ambition, originality and flair. Through this rich and aspirational provision, we develop confident readers, writers and communicators, fully prepared to thrive at the next stage of their education and beyond.
