At Benedict House Preparatory School, our Art and Design and Technology curriculum focuses on the progressive development of skills, which are carefully taught and built upon as children move through the school. Equally important, however, is providing pupils with regular opportunities to apply these skills creatively within their own individual work.
In both Art and DT, we value the creative process as much as the final outcome. Children are encouraged to explore ideas, take risks and problem solve, understanding that there is no single right or wrong result and that creativity develops through experimentation and reflection.
Pupils have twice taken part in the National Gallery’s Take One Picture project, leading to exciting and meaningful creative journeys inspired by a single artwork. Alongside this, we recognise the joy and freedom of creative expression and sometimes it is simply fun to get messy, explore materials and create for the sheer enjoyment of it.
