Settling in and Transitions

As early years practitioners at Benedict House, we understand that starting school is a significant milestone and that calm, carefully managed transitions are essential for children to feel safe, secure and confident. We offer a flexible programme of taster sessions alongside half or full days, tailored to each child and offered as often as needed before they formally begin with us.

During this transition period, we work in close partnership with parents and carers to build a detailed understanding of each child as an individual, including their interests, strengths and any areas where they may need additional support. With parental permission, we may also liaise with a child’s previous setting to ensure continuity of care and learning.

Where a child may find settling more challenging, we thoughtfully put in place personalised adjustments to support their emotional wellbeing and successful transition. Our approach is rooted in strong relationships, open communication and a deep commitment to meeting the needs of every child, ensuring that each pupil feels valued, understood and ready to thrive at Benedict House.
